Interchange – Spring 2009

Blacksburg Friends have been working on a small piece of land for the past four years to prepare it for a new Meeting House. On monthly workdays we have planted trees and flowers, built fences, built a picnic shelter, and enjoyed outdoor Meeting for Worship, Earth day celebrations, and Advent celebrations. Our Meeting has grown together and is excited to embark on a new chapter of Blacksburg Friends Meeting.

On March 28, 2009, Blacksburg Friends had a groundbreaking ceremony for our new Meetinghouse. It was a beautiful day with singing, original poems, food, and fellowship. We will officially begin breaking ground and construction in early April.

We are also looking forward to welcoming a couple of thousand Quakers to Blacksburg for the FGC Gathering, June 27-July 4. The gathering will be held on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Membership: Liz Tuchler and Jon Hulburt have become members of Blacksburg Friends. Jay Wilkins transferred his membership to Blacksburg from Springfield Friends Meeting in High Point, NC. Doris Martin has transferred from BFM to Valley Friends Meeting in Harrisonburg, VA.
